BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team recently participated in the LSU University Recreation’s Challenge Course.

Comprised of both low and high elements, the course is designed to promote teamwork through various challenges. Among the low course activities that the team completed were the “Spider’s web,” “Islands” and “Mine field.” These challenges specifically focused on building communication and trust among the student-athletes.

“The purpose of the event was to try to improve team chemistry by getting the team to work together,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said.

The team also completed high course elements including the “High Y” and “Giant’s ladder.” The “High Y” features two poles reaching 30 feet in the air and requires participants to walk on wires between them while the “Giant’s ladder” is composed of two-by-fours suspended in the air several feet apart and attached by wires and requires participants to climb them like a ladder.

“We wanted the team to work together as well as individually since they play an individual sport,” said Chris Bullard, coordinator of adventure education.

In all, the team completed roughly 10 exercises and games designed to enhance the squad’s camaraderie.

“The course helped us work as a team and come together and get closer,” said women’s tennis sophomore Kaitlin Burns.
