BATON ROUGE — Three LSU student-athletes took part in “Give Kids a Smile Day” at local Associates in Pediatric Dentistry Friday as part of the CHAMPS/Life Skills Geaux Givers initiative.

Track and field athletes Brieanna Kennedy and Lauren Saucier and women’s swimmer Brooke Barnett each spent a couple of hours volunteering at the event, which gave free teeth cleanings and dental work to children in East Baton Rouge Parish schools who might not have otherwise had the opportunity to visit the dentist.

Kennedy, Saucier and Barnett also educated the children on proper tooth brushing techniques and helped alleviate any concerns the kids may have had about visiting the dentist.

“I had such a fun time volunteering at this event,” Barnett said. “Teaching these kids about dental hygiene and making the dentist’s office a fun place for them was great. Helping to put smiles on these kids faces was very rewarding.”
