Basketball Signee O’Bryant to Play in McDonald’s Game

BATON ROUGE – LSU men’s basketball signee Johnny O’Bryant of East Side HS in Cleveland, Miss., was  named to the East squad for the 2011 McDonald’s All-American game, set for March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.

O’Bryant, 6-10 and 260, signed with LSU and Coach Trent Johnson during the fall 2010 signing period and will join the Tigers for the 2011-12 basketball season.

The announcement was made on ESPNU on Thursday afternoon. O’Bryant is ranked 30th on the ESPNU 150 and the seventh-ranked power forward. He is averaging 19.2 points per game, 14.7 rebounds per game and 6.2 blocks per contest for East Side.

Of O’Bryant, Paul Biancardi of ESPNU Recruiting said: “O’Bryant is a true post player whose powerful body and strength allow him to carve out position in the paint. He also has strong hands to rebound and soft hands to score inside.”

David Telep, ESPN.com’s senior basketball recruiting analyst said: He’ll be remembered for his size and overall athletic ability. On dozens of occasions at major national events, O’Bryant would complete a spin move or knock down a jumper. The move would defy his size but demonstrate his physical gifts.

Four SEC teams – LSU, Georgia, Florida and Kentucky – had signees named to the rosters for this year’s McDonald’s game.
