Hey Tiger Fans –
It’s that time of year again! The 2011 LSU softball season officially starts tomorrow at 3 p.m., and I hope all of you wonderful Tiger fans are ready for the season to start because I know the whole team is ecstatic! Each of us has been working extremely hard in practice every single day, giving everything we got and mustering up our strength to bust through the first weekend of the season. We expect nothing less than going all the way to the World Series and bringing home the glory for all of Louisiana!
The only people I can imagine being more excited about this weekend than me are the new Tigers. This year our team is blessed with six new amazingly talented young girls who have already made a huge impact on our program. We have five freshmen (Jacee Blades, Alex Boulet, Simone Heyward, Meghan Patterson, Tammy Wray) and one redshirt transfer (Ashleigh Kuhn).
For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting these awesome girls, I will give you some insight on a few of their talents. Jacee is amongst one of our fastest runners and is an amazing all-around player. She sacrifices herself to play both infield and outfield and is always performing to her best potential no matter where she is.
For Alex, I would have to say that she is nothing short of a soaring eagle. That girl is always gracefully flying through the air and making the most miraculous catches in the outfield. She has such amazing speed, and it’s truly unbelievable how she floats in the air.
Simone also is an outfielder with blazing speed. I would honestly say she is one of the fastest girls that LSU softball has ever had.
Meghan Patterson is a part of my little crew: she is our newest pitcher and the one who completes the “Three Musketeers”. With her in the pitching lineup, there’s no way hitters are going to score on us.
All I can say about Tammy is that she’s a beast! This girl has so much power at the plate that no one is going to want to throw to her. Her swing is so solid, and her skills on the field simply add to the number one defensive team in the SEC.
Ashleigh transferred from Northwestern State during the fall and has been a hardcore Tiger from day one. Every day she comes to the field with her happy attitude and amazing talents. Although she will not be playing with us this year, I can only imagine what she will bring to the team next season. Each one of these girls brings something new to the team, but most importantly, they complete our softball family.
There’s one more Tiger that will be charging on the field this season: Cassie Trosclair. Cassie came to us from Auburn last season but wasn’t able to play due to SEC transfer regulations. I’m extremely excited to see her out on the field because she makes such amazing plays at second base, and her swing is so smooth you just have to smile.
Our team has real potential this season, and I’m so excited to get things started. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces in the crowd and welcoming the new ones. Although I practice on the field every day, the thought of playing at Tiger Park in front of thousands of fans just makes me giggle with joy! Our park is absolutely gorgeous, and I’m one lucky softball player to be able to say, “This is my field.”
Coach Girouard actually added a few decorations to Tiger Park recently, and they all look awesome! She’s always coming up with ways to make Tiger Park even more fantastic and how to remember our past All-Americans who have left their mark on LSU softball. She does a great deal for our program and the team can’t thank her enough for all her efforts.
Being a Tiger softball player is truly an amazing privilege. There are so many things that LSU’s program has to offer, and I’m so glad that I made the right decision to spend my four amazing years in Baton Rouge.
Besides playing on the most beautiful softball field in the nation, I would have to say that my favorite part about being a Tiger softball player is all the support from Tiger fans! Every day I’m surrounded by people who bleed purple and gold. They enjoy spreading the spirit of LSU. Everyone is so supportive of our team, and I can’t thank all the fans enough for all the love I have received being at LSU.
I’m so thankful to have two more years at LSU, and I hope to see everyone at Tiger Park this weekend!
Geaux Tigers,
Brittany
