ACSA?s Saal Selected for LSU Lead Emerge Program

BATON ROUGE – Student Learning Manager and Learning Specialist Leah Saal has been selected to represent the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes at LSU’s LEAD Emerge program.

LEAD Emerge is LSU’s selective leadership development program for emerging professional staff on the campus including new supervisors, candidates for promotion to a supervisory position, and current supervisors who have been nominated by their departments and chosen by committee for participation.

“I’m honored to be selected and excited to participate in LEAD Emerge,” Saal said. “I know that my leadership and supervisory skills will be enhanced by our expert facilitators as well as the amazing cohort group that I will have the privilege to share the experience with.  As a result, I look forward to continuing to improve the Student Learning Program’s effectiveness for LSU’s student-athletes as we seek to become the premier provider of academic support in the country.”

The program focuses on building and enhancing leadership skills which support the University’s strategic objectives. Using self awareness as a catalyst for professional improvement, the program incorporates a combination of individual and group experiential exercises to further build participants’ competencies.

“The Office of Human Resource Management is excited about the acceptance of Leah Saal into its premier leadership program, LEAD Emerge,” Director of Training and Development for Human Resource Management Yvette Marsh said. “This excitement is spurred by Leah’s leadership potential and is additionally, yet another representation of the continued support of this program by the Academic Center for Student-Athletes. Not only will Leah benefit from learning the basic principles of leadership, she will also experience the gift of engaging with other similarly talented participants from across the campus. The lessons gained through LEAD Emerge are certain to enhance her role at ACSA and subsequently, the university.”

The Spring 2011 class features 22 participants from departments ranging from Facility Services to Biological Sciences.

“The LEAD Emerge program provides the opportunity to gain insights as to how to become a more effective leader within your office and across campus,” Associate Director of Student Learning Jennifer Timmer said. “I’m so excited that Leah was selected to participate, as it will provide her the opportunity to thoroughly analyze her skills and deliberately apply specific strategies to help those she supervises be as productive and successful as possible.”
