BATON ROUGE – The LSU track and field teams have held their position in the top three of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 this week in the wake of a successful trip to New York this past weekend for the 2011 New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
The Tigers are ranked No. 2 nationally for the second week in a row, while the Lady Tigers are ranked in the same position they have been for the past five weeks at No. 3 in the latest power ranking.
The top four in the men’s power ranking has remained unchanged from a week ago as the Tigers trail the No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA Indoor champion Florida Gators for the top spot in the rankings. Also in the top five are No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Texas Tech and No. 5 Indiana.
The top five of the women’s power ranking remains intact as No. 1-ranked Oregon continues to hold onto a commanding lead over the rest of the country. The Lady Tigers also trail No. 2 Texas A&M, while they lead such programs as No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Tennessee again this week.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will be back in action this weekend with their second trip in three weeks to the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., where they will compete Friday and Saturday during the 2011 Tyson Invitational being held at the University of Arkansas.
