KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – LSU men’s tennis senior Sebastian Carlsson won his fourth-straight singles match to claim the consolation singles final at the SEC Indoor Championships on Monday at Tennessee’s Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center to close out the individual season for the Tigers.
The Uppsala, Sweden, native knocked-off Kentucky’s Grant Roberts in a close three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, (10-6), to complete his run through the back draw.
Carlsson made quick work of Mississippi State’s Tanner Stump, 6-4, 6-0, on Saturday to advance to the round of 16. On Sunday, he took down two Tennessee foes. He finished off Jarryd Chaplin in straight-sets, 6-0, 7-6, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals where he outlasted Ed Jones in a tight match, 6-3, 3-6, (10-7). A forfeiture in the semifinals landed Carlsson a spot in the finals.
The four-day individual tournament was the final test for the Tigers before the dual match season, which begins in two weeks in Lubbock, Texas, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. LSU will face Texas Tech on Jan. 29 and either Cal or Auburn on Jan. 30.
