BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will open its 2011 spring schedule this weekend as it travels to Charlottesville, Va., for the UVA Winter Invitational beginning Saturday at 9 a.m. CT at Boyd Tinsley Courts.

Joining the Lady Tigers in the event are No. 22 Arkansas, host and No. 24 Virginia and Utah. Each day of the three-day tournament will offer one round of both singles and doubles action.

“This tournament provides us with a great opportunity,” said women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis. “We will be able to knock off some rust after the break and face several strong teams. I am looking forward to some great competition.”

The Lady Tigers will travel to Charlottesville for the fourth-consecutive year. The duo of junior Whitney Wolf and sophomore Keri Frankenberger led LSU at last season’s event, collecting two doubles wins over the weekend.

Wolf enters this year’s event ranked No. 33 in the latest ITA singles rankings. The Pride, La., product compiled a singles record of 7-5 this past fall. Despite missing part of the fall season due to injury, Frankenberger also recorded a successful fall singles record of 3-2.

Following play in Charlottesville, the Lady Tigers will open up the dual-match season on Feb. 2 with home matches against Texas Tech at 12 p.m. and Prairie View A&M at 5 p.m.
