BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis junior Whitney Wolf skyrocketed up the national singles poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday as she will enter the spring season ranked No. 33.

Wolf moved up 89 slots from her No. 122 pre-season fall ranking thanks to a fine fall campaign in which she upended three nationally-ranked opponents.

The Pride, La., native finished the fall slate with a 7-5 singles record playing out of the No. 1 position and posted wins over nationally-ranked opponents Kristi Boxx (Ole Miss), Nadja Gilchrist (Georgia) and Jelena Durisic (North Carolina). She also reached the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Regional Championships and took part in the pre-qualifying singles and qualifying doubles rounds at the ITA/Riviera All-American Championships.

“It is a tremendous accomplishment for Whitney to achieve this type of ranking,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “She has worked really hard on her game and improved a lot. She’s put herself in a good position by her hard work in the fall.”

The Lady Tigers will open the spring season on Jan. 15 when they compete on the first day of the University of Virginia’s Winter Invitational.
