Tiger Park, Mike’s Habitat Among LSU’s Best Structures

BATON ROUGE – The Faculty Senate Monthly Newsletter recently named Tiger Park the fifth-best building of LSU Architecture on campus.

The survey aimed to identify those offerings that are something more than just a little good. It brought to light those that hammer home, in an articulate or even aggressive way, both happy and hopeful messages.

Below is the complete list.

7. Parker Coliseum
6. Dairy Science
5. Tiger Park (LSU Softball Stadium) — Best seen at night, when its gables and overhang seem to brighten into shimmering white sails winging through cool ebony skies, the softball stadium shows that LSU can come up with a building that plays to something other than the local taste for plantation imagery and Greco-Roman bric-a-brac. Welling out of a hillock in a way that suggests strong shoulders on the brink of swinging a home run, the softball stadium evidences a modest freshness that brings a smile and savors of popcorn and hot dogs.
4. Mike the Tiger’s Habitat
3. LSU Faculty Club
2. The Renovated Music and Dramatic Arts Building
1. The Landolt Observatory

LSU earned a runner-up finish at the SEC Tournament en route to a 45-16 finish, its 10th season with at least 45 victories since softball was reinstated in 1997. The Tigers also reeled off a program-best 24-game winning streak and recorded their 12th NCAA Regional appearance in 2010.

LSU is currently taking season ticket deposits for new or additional tickets for the 2011 season. Current season ticket renewals were mailed out at the end of October. Deposits are $25 and will be applied toward full payment for 2011 season tickets.

The 2011 home schedule features marquee SEC match-ups against Alabama, Florida and Tennessee along with 2010 NCAA Regional foes Hofstra, Kentucky, McNeese State and Texas.
