KANSAS CITY, Kan. – LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes recently agreed to a multi-year partnership with Career Athletes. The partnership between Career Athletes and the LSU’s ACSA provides a national representation of unique networking opportunities and career development resources for current and alumni athletes.
“LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes and the Athletic Department are excited to partner with Career Athletes to assist in our goal of providing exceptional professional and career development opportunities to our student-athletes,” Associate Director of Student Learning Jennifer Timmer said. “We believe students must prepare for life after sports and graduation and Career Athletes will be helpful in guiding students towards networking and professional opportunities while also providing resources to help with the job search process.”
“In order to achieve greatness, you must first learn, and then apply that which you’ve learned to life’s principles,” Director of Student Affairs Mike Mallet said. “With that in mind, it is our responsibility to teach and train each of our student-athletes those skills that are necessary to achieve that expected level of success. By partnering with Career Athletes, our student-athletes will have the opportunities and the professional expertise that will better prepare them for the future.”
This Online Career Community Network will provide benefits such as mentoring, professional networking, virtual career coaching and 12 years of best practices from the leading and largest career services organization assisting athletes, athletic departments and campus career centers.
The LSU “Community Network” consists of current and alumni athletes from the institution as well as local, regional and national employers all managed and monitored by Career Athletes at its home office in the Kansas City area. After exhausting NCAA eligibility, individual members of Career Athletes also are able to network with over 70,000 former college athletes from across the nation while having access to over 25,000 career opportunities exclusive to www.careerathletes.com.
DJ Washington at Career Athletes explains that beyond an athletic department’s initiative assisting with career opportunities and educational resources, it also helps when there is already a foundation on campus toward academic success.
“We are pleased to assist LSU Athletics with its commitment toward career development of athletes, but it is also just as important to recognize the program’s culture of achievement in community service, academic performance and athletic success,” said Washington, Vice President, Career Education and Training.
