BATON ROUGE — Following a phenomenal performance at last weekend’s Phil Hansel Cougar Classic Invitational, LSU senior Jane Trepp earned Counsilman-Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors on Wednesday.
Trepp shattered four school and two pool records, posted the nation’s fastest times in two events and recorded four NCAA ‘B’ cuts in Houston.
“It’s a great honor for Jane and our program,” co-head coach David Geyer said. “Her performance this past weekend obviously warranted national attention. I look forward to seeing where she can takes things from here as we prepare for SEC’s and NCAA’s.”
The Lady Tigers’ five-time All-American blistered the field in the 50-yard freestyle in a nation-leading and school-record time of 22.16 seconds and also won the 100 butterfly with a nation-leading and school-record mark of 52.11. Her mark in the 100 fly was nearly a half second faster than the winning time at last season’s SEC Championships.
Furthermore, Trepp broke the program record in the 100 free with her victorious time of 48.85, fourth-best in the country and No. 1 in the SEC, and improved her school mark in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:00.70, also the top time in the SEC and ranked in the nation’s top 10.
In relay competition, the Tallinn, Estonia, native spearheaded four teams to victories and provisional qualifying times.
The LSU swimmers return to action in January when they make their annual training trip to the state of Florida.
