BATON ROUGE – Last weekend, several members of the LSU men’s tennis team put down their racquets and picked up some tools when they participated in a Habitat for Humanity Build in North Baton Rouge on Saturday.
Cody Loup, James Turbervill, David Roberts, Julien Gauthier, Stefan Szacinski, Mark Bowtell, John Michaelis, Roger Anderson and manager Tim Kwan helped start a new house project from scratch, constructing the main frame of the house by nailing together walls and doors.
“Being able to participate in Habitat for Humanity was a great way for our guys to see what it’s like for those less fortunate,” Loup said. “We realized how lucky we are to have a roof over our head and the ability to play the sport we love every day.”
The team also helped landscape the house by laying grass and planting trees.
“Everyone really enjoyed the event,” Anderson said. “We really appreciated the opportunity to work with our hands and to help give back to such a great cause.”
The Tigers are set to kick-off the spring season on Jan. 7 at the Key Biscayne Invitational in Key Biscayne, Fla.
