BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU middle blocker Desiree Elliott garnered her fourth SEC Freshmen of the Week honor of the season Monday as announced by the league office.
Elliott joined the elite company of former All-Americans Marina Skender and Lauren DeGirolamo, who notched four freshmen weekly awards during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, respectively.
“Desiree continues to be a strong force as both a dynamic hitter and discipline blocker for our team,” head coach Fran Flory said. “Certainly, her hard work day in and day out on the practice court has been a big part of her success. The ability to earn this award four times in a season is pretty remarkable. We’re going to need her to continue to play at a high level if we want to accomplish our season goals.”
Elliott ripped over three kills per set sparked by a career-best 20 kills on a .395 hitting percentage at Kentucky. She contributed 19 of those spikes during the final four sets. In LSU’s 3-1 victory at No. 21 Tennessee, Elliott connected for 10 kills and has reached double digit kills in seven of her last 10 matches. She also tallied seven blocks for a 0.78 per set clip.
LSU returns home Friday to take on South Carolina to open its final regular season home weekend. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Maravich Center.
