BATON ROUGE – As part of LSU Day festivities on Saturday afternoon, Brandon Gordon, Kyle Rose and Lauren Saucier of the track and field teams joined Mary Michael Maggio and Tessa Teachman of the women’s golf team in leading the Storytime Village exhibit at the UREC Student Recreation Center.
The group read books with a Louisiana theme to children passing through the exhibit throughout the day, while promoting the importance of literacy to the Baton Rouge community.
The exhibit was set up as part of the LSU Day celebration of the 150th anniversary of the University.
“It was great to see the children so interested to read,” Rose said. “The kids loved the books because most were written by local authors about Louisiana’s culture.”
“I really enjoyed volunteering. It was great to celebrate LSU and get to give back to kids,” Teachman said following the event. “I really enjoyed reading the Louisiana-themed books and seeing the excitement of the kids we were ready to. It was a lot of fun for everyone who was able to participate.”
