ULM, members of the Sun Belt Conference, is 4-5 overall following last week’s 42-35 overtime loss to Florida International. The Warhawks are 0-2 against Southeastern Conference members this year, dropping a 34-20 decision to Arkansas and 52-3 to Auburn.

The Warhawks must win two of their final three games to become bowl-eligible. ULM closes out its season with conference games against North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette. Saturday’s game will be just the second between the teams in football as the Tigers won the only other meeting between the schools, 49-7, in 2003.

LSU At the Game programs are available on campus three hours prior to game time and online while supplies last.

“We expect another tough challenge from a very good ULM team,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “They have talented players on both sides of the ball and a quarterback who can make plays with both his arm and his feet.

“The key for us is to build off of what we accomplished last week. We didn’t play a perfect game, but we made progress and got a solid effort from offense, defense and special teams. We are at the point in the season where we have to keep progressing. You want to play meaningful games in November and this is another one of those opportunities.”

A week ago, LSU had its best offensive output of the season, putting together 433 yards of total offense – 225 rushing and 208 passing – against one of the top defenses in the country. Both quarterbacks – Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee – played well as the combined to complete 14 of 20 passes. Jefferson had his best game of the year, throwing for 141 yards and one TD – a 75-yarder to Rueben Randle – and rushing for another 27 yards.

Ridley, who ranks second in the SEC in rushing yards with 811 and seven TDs, continues to be a workhouse for the Tigers as he leads the league with a 176 carries.

Defensively, LSU remains atop the SEC as the Tigers lead the league in total defense (282.9) and pass defense (157.7) and stand at No. 2 in scoring defense (16.2). LSU ranks among the top 10 nationally in all three of those categories.

Senior Drake Nevis continued his all-American caliber season last week with seven tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in the win over Alabama. Nevis has been named the SEC Defensive Lineman a league-high four times this year. Nevis leads the Tigers with 12.5 tackles for loss and sacks with 6.0.

Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard leads the Tigers and ranks fourth in the SEC with 80 tackles, while Patrick Peterson continues to be considered one of the top cornerbacks in college football with 28 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions.

The LSU defense will be challenged by ULM quarterback Kolton Browning, who is averaging 265.2 total yards of offense per game. Browning, just a freshman, leads ULM in both rushing yards (306) and passing yards (2,080). He’s combined for 15 TDs this year – 12 passing, 3 rushing.

“Todd Berry has done a great job in his first year at ULM,” Miles said. “This is a ULM team who understands what it means to go into an SEC stadium and have success. In the not too distant past, ULM beat a very good Alabama team in Tuscaloosa and they nearly knocked off Arkansas two years ago.

“I like our position as we head into the final three weeks of the regular season. We’ve worked long and hard to get to this point. The key is to finish strong and it’s going to take a one game at a time approach. The focus will be on us and playing to the best our ability because we know that ULM is going to come in here and give us their best shot.”
