BATON ROUGE – Members of the LSU football team took time out of their busy schedules to visit 1st through 5th graders at St. Luke’s Episcopal Elementary School on Friday, and talk about being a student-athlete at LSU.
Craig Loston, Chris Davenport, Drake Nevis, Robert Blackmon, Kadron Boone, Cleveland Davis and Alfred Blue talked to the children about college life and balancing athletics and academics. The Tigers stressed the importance of focusing on schoolwork even with their rigorous practice schedule.
Nevis found much joy in talking to the students.
“I enjoy going back into the community and being a positive role model to those in the next generation,” Nevis said. “I saw many future leaders at this school today, and this was a great event to be a part of at St. Luke’s”
Blackmon, a freshman offensive lineman from Burkburnett, TX, was glad to have the opportunity to connect with the community.
“My favorite part about it was seeing the reaction of the students and teachers,” Blackmon said. “When they saw us, they were not only excited, but appreciative as well.”
The students also had the opportunity to ask questions and take a class picture with the players.
