BATON ROUGE – LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen again was able to latch on to another star golfer to join the No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers as Sweden’s Madelene Sagstrom has sent in her National Letter of Intent for the 2011-12 season.

Sagstrom, from Klippan Gymnasium school in Enkoping, Sweden, has 11 wins in her last 62 tournaments with 10 second place finishes and 21 top 10s. She is ranked seventh overall in the Swedish Ladies rankings and second on the girl’s rankings list. She has two wins in 2010 at the Skandia Tour Elit Flickor where she shot an even par 216 and at the Alex Noren Junior Open. She posted five wins in 2009 and three wins on 2008 including the Skandia Cup National Championship.

In 2010, Sagstrom has finished second in both the Swedish Junior Masters Tournament and the Skandria Tour Elit Flickor event No. 6 with a third place finish in the Swedish Match Play Championship. She finished 17th in the Girls British Open Amateur Championship. She also made an appearance in the prestigious AJGA Thunderbird International in Phoenix earlier this year, placing 11th.

She is currently a member of the Swedish National Team and helped her country to a fifth place finish at the 2010 European Girls Team Championship.

“We are extremely pleased to have Madelene as a new member of our team,” said Coach Bahnsen.  “She is both the caliber person and player that will help us continue the success we are having as a program.  She shares with our team the same determination of winning a National Championship.”
