BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both ranked No. 22 in their respective national poll, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.
It’s great that my coaching peers look at our men’s and women’s squads as Top 25 caliber programs this early in the season,” co-head coach David Geyer said. “Ultimately, it’s the final rankings after NCAA’s that are most relevant to our programs.”
The LSU women (4-1, 1-1 SEC) have already earned four wins this season with victories over SEC rival Alabama, Notre Dame and Florida State.
The Tigers (1-3, 0-3 SEC) have only one win thus far, a hard-fought victory over No. 20 Florida State. However, all four opponents they’ve faced are nationally-ranked, including a pair of top-10 teams in Florida and Auburn.
In addition, the Tigers and Lady Tigers currently have 11 athletes with individual marks ranking in the nation’s top 25.
The LSU men are one of seven SEC teams nationally-ranked led by No. 4 Florida. On the women’s side, No. 2 Georgia headlines five other nationally-ranked SEC squads in addition to the Lady Tigers.
LSU returns to action next Thursday when both teams travel to the University of Houston’s Cougar Classic Fall Invitational, Nov. 18-20.
