BATON ROUGE – LSU’s win over Alabama propelled the Tigers to No. 5 in the Bowl Championship Standings, the National Football Foundation announced with the release of the weekly rankings on Sunday night.
LSU, now 8-1 overall and 5-1 in Southeastern Conference play, has a .8170 BCS average, which takes into account two human elements – The USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Rankings – along with a computer average. LSU is No. 6 in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive and the Tigers have an average computer ranking of No. 4.
LSU is the highest-ranked one-loss team in the BCS Standings. Last week, the Tigers were No. 10 in the BCS following the open date.
Oregon currently holds the top spot in the BCS with a .9638 average, followed by Auburn at .9611, TCU at .9259 and Boise State at .8661.
Other SEC teams in the BCS Standings include Alabama at No. 12, Arkansas at No. 15, Mississippi State at No. 18, Florida at No. 22 and South Carolina at No. 23.
LSU returns to action on Saturday, hosting Louisiana-Monroe at 6 p.m. in Tiger Stadium for Homecoming.
