PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Stanford University Golf Course again proved difficult for the LSU women’s golf team as the Lady Tigers struggled to a 19th-place finish Friday in the first round of the Pac-10-SEC Challenge.
The Lady Tigers, returning to the site where they missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by one stroke last May, couldn’t get things going at all as their first competitive round in a month was a 32-over par 316.
The Pac-10 has the first-round lead in the form of UCLA at one-over 285 on the par 71 course, while Arizona is tied with Auburn at two-over 286. Washington is fourth at three-over 285 with Arkansas at 288 and Alabama at 289.
LSU is playing this weekend without senior Megan McChrystal, who completed the LPGA Futures Qualifying Tournament with a 37th place finish in an original field of 308 to get her qualifying position for professional play after her college career ends in May. Also out of the LSU lineup is junior Tessa Teachman.
Joanne Lee of California shot the best individual round of six-under 65 with Marina Alex of Vanderbilt at five-under 66. LSU’s best round was a six-over 77 from sophomore Mary Michael Maggio. LSU also had 79s from senior Lindy LaBauve and freshman Austin Ernst and counted an 81 from senior Amalie Valle.
The second round is set for 9:30 a.m. CDT and live scoring is available at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
