BATON ROUGE – LSU setter Brittney Johnson notched ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second-Team honors Thursday as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA]. It marks the fourth straight season that LSU has had at least one player secure a spot on the prestigious academic list.

Johnson, a two-time Jesse Owens Award recipient which is given to highest GPA for a LSU African-American student-athlete, has been a major part of LSU’s offensive success.

The Tigers (21-2, 12-2 SEC) not only rank among the SEC’s best but also inside the NCAA’s Top 20 in assists per set [13.36], kills per set [14.49] and hitting percentage [.276].

Individually, Johnson headlines the SEC and check in No. 40 nationally with 10.76 assists per set. She has fueled the LSU offense to over a .300 hitting clip on nine occasions, including a .352 ratio last time out against Alabama. The Baton Rouge native also has racked up a team-best nine double-doubles.

LSU concludes its three-match homestand next Sunday against Ole Miss. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. inside the Maravich Center. Fans who bring their football ticket from Saturday’s Alabama game will receive free admission.
