EVANSTON, Ill. – LSU women’s tennis freshmen Yvette Vlaar got off to a great start Friday, capturing both a singles win and a doubles victory to lead the Lady Tigers on day of the Wildcat Fall Invitational hosted by Northwester University at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
Vlaar, a native of Weert, Netherlands, took down Northwestern’s Natalie Edell 6-1, 6-3 in round one of the singles flight B bracket. With the win, Vlaar advances to face Wisconsin’s Jenny Hois in the second round.
Earlier in the day, Vlaar paired up with teammate Ariel Morton in the flight C doubles draw. The Tiger tandem defeated the Western Michigan pair of Maggie Remynse and Amanda Moccia 8-4.
“I was really impressed with Yvette today,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “She has a lot of momentum so hopefully she can keep it up throughout the weekend.”
The Lady Tiger’s will be back on the court tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (CT) for day two of the flighted tournament. Doubles matches will be held first with singles play to follow.
