Men’s Tennis to Compete at ITA Regional

BATON ROUGE – Eight members of the LSU men’s tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the USTA/ITA South Regional Championships Oct. 22-25 at Alabama’s varsity courts.

Senior Sebastian Carlsson, juniors Neal Skupski, Mark Bowtell and Tom Knights, and sophomores Roger Anderson, Stefan Szacinski, Olivier Borsos and James Turbervill will represent the Tigers at the event, which includes a total of 89 players from 13 different schools.

“We are looking forward to getting back on the court,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “The guys are hungry to compete, and we are looking forward to continuing with the good fall season we have going.”

LSU will take the court in both singles and doubles, with Carlsson and Skupski, Bowtell and Anderson, Skuspki and Knights, and Borsos and Turbervill teaming up in the doubles bracket for the Tigers.

The South Region includes universities from Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. This year’s participants   are host Alabama, UAB, Samford, UL-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Mississippi, Auburn, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane and Jacksonville State.

The winners of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the USTA/ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y., at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in November.

Play begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday and will last throughout the day.

The Tigers last saw action two weeks ago when Carlsson and Skupski traveled to the ITA All-American Championships, and Bowtell, Knights, Anderson, Szacinski, Borsos and Turbervill competed at the Rice Invitational.
