Volleyball?s Elliott Wins Third SEC Weekly Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU middle blocker Desiree Elliott continued her hot streak and picked up her third SEC Freshman of the Week award of the season Monday as announced by the league office.

It marked the third time in five weeks that Elliott has won the award. Marina Skender notched the same honor three times over a four-week span en route to SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC Second-Team accolades during the 2005 season.

“Desiree continues to be an impact player in all facets of the game,” head coach Fran Flory said. “It’s a pretty special accomplishment when you can earn this type of award three times over a five week period. We’re going to need her to continue her strong play if we want to be successful during the second half of the SEC schedule.”

Elliott vaulted up the SEC rankings after back-to-back career performances, which saw her rip 3.43 kills per set in addition to 1.71 blocks per set. She used only 15 swings to equal a career-best 11 kills against Arkansas on ESPNU. Her .600 hitting percentage and eight blocks versus the Razorbacks also were career-highs.

Elliott posted her third straight double digit kills effort with a career-best 13 spikes at Ole Miss. The Cypress, Texas, native has powered home the SEC’s second-highest hitting clip, a .423 ratio, coupled with a league-high 1.29 blocks per set during conference action.
