BATON ROUGE – Two-time national champion and former LSU gymnast Ashleigh Clare-Kearney has returned to the gymnastics program as a volunteer coach, head coach D-D Breaux announced Tuesday.
Clare-Kearney will not be able to attend every practice because the five-time All-American will have to balance coaching with class as she is currently enrolled in law school at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from LSU.
“She has so much to give,” Breaux said. “Her choreography skills and her ability to interpret music and give her interpretation to someone else is why I wanted her back. We are only getting a little piece of her because she is 100 percent committed to her law school and her professional endeavors, but she is invaluable as a coach and mentor to our athletes.”
During fall practice Clare-Kearney will be responsible for choreographing gymnast floor routines, but she will work with the team on every event once all floor routines are complete.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to be involved with such a young and enthusiastic team,” Clare-Kearney said. “I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences as a collegiate gymnast with this team. I also would like to play a role as a mentor to the girls and give them insight about the challenges and adversities they’ll face as well as the strategies to overcome those obstacles.”
