BATON ROUGE – The No. 12 LSU volleyball team took time during its day off from the hardwood to brighten the day of several children in the Baton Rouge Community Monday as the Tigers visited patients at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.

The players went room-to-room and cheered up the kids by handing out autographed volleyball posters.

“It’s important for us to reach out to the community that supports us so much,” outside hitter Madie Jones said. “We had a lot of fun meeting some great kids and getting to make someone’s day.”

“We enjoy going out into the community and meeting all of the kids,” outside hitter Angela Bensend said. “We have all done this every year, and love being able to interact with these great kids.”

The Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital first opened in Baton Rouge in 1945, treating children of all ages. The Tigers have future visits planned to the hospital.

LSU returns to action Wednesday for a nationally televised match against Arkansas. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. on ESPNU. The first 300 fans will receive foam RV’s as part of “Jump in the RV” night in honor of freeing Coach Flory over the summer that tripled @LSUVolleyball’s following on Twitter.

Live video and live stats are available in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net. Fans also can follow live in-match updates on the team’s official blog at http://lsuvolleyball.posterous.com.
