Williams paced the defending SEC champions to a 3-0 weekend and earned Tournament MVP honors at the Texas A&M Invitational. She connected for 3.40 kills per set on a .397 hitting percentage and her presence was felt at the net en route to 1.50 blocks per set. In a rematch of last year’s NCAA Second Round match against Texas A&M, Williams ripped 12 kills on 19 swings without an attack error for a career-best .632 hitting percentage. She also posted 13 kills and eight blocks against Pacific in the season opener.

Waclawczyk anchored LSU’s back row and earned Texas A&M Invitational All-Tournament Team honors as the defending SEC champions compiled a 3-0 weekend. The junior libero secured 4.00 digs per set as LSU limited its opponents to a .066 hitting percentage for the weekend. She also tacked on five aces at a 0.50 per set ratio and distributed 1.30 assists per set. Waclawczyk notched 20 digs and tallied a perfect-passer rating in 35 attempts against Pacific during LSU’s season opener.

Notes on the Tigers
The No. 21 LSU volleyball team racked up a 3-0 record and claimed the Texas A&M Invitational crown with wins over Pacific, Siena and host Texas A&M. The defending SEC champions picked up its 11th consecutive winning opening weekend under head coach Fran Flory. Michele Williams garnered Tournament MVP honors, while Angela Bensend and Lauren Waclawczyk joined Williams on the All-Tournament Team. The Tigers also held their opponents to under a .100 hitting percentage in all three matches and racked up 2.50 blocks per set. Waclawczyk sparked the back row with 4.00 digs per set and connected for five aces. Williams along with Tania Schatow and Desiree Elliott each posted double figure blocks. On offense, Williams ripped 34 kills on a .397 attack percentage. She slapped 12 kills on 19 swings without an attack error and garnered a career-high .632 hitting clip against Texas A&M. Bensend powered home a career-best 18 kills against Pacific and added 14 spikes versus Texas A&M. LSU also had five talented freshmen make their Tiger debuts. Elliott popped 10 kills against Pacific, Shelby Pursley distributed 16 assists over two sets against Siena and Victoria Jacobsen corralled five digs in two sets against Siena. LSU returns to the Lone Star state next weekend for the TCU Tournament. The Tigers have matches scheduled with Alcorn State, Central Arkansas and TCU in Fort Worth.
