BATON ROUGE – LSUsports.net had the opportunity to catch up with former NFCA All-American Trena Peel courtesy of Eric Lopez, who covers the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch League. Peel and the Akron Racers are the No. 3 seed for the NPF Championship Series, which begins Thursday in Sulphur.
During the interview, Peel reflects on her most memorable moments as a Tiger and her pro career that has stretched six seasons in the NPF. She also touched upon her new challenge as head coach at the University of Hampton, a position she accepted in July.

Peel, a 2004 & 2005 NPF All Star, is batting .279 with two home runs and 10 RBIs over 29 games this season. While at LSU, she was a three-time All-SEC performer, 2002 SEC Player of the Year and one of 25 semifinals for the 2002 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year award.
Peel notched a .332 career batting average and ranks among LSU’s Top 10 in hits (269), runs scored (173), RBIs (144), stolen bases (79), walks (72), doubles (45), on-base percentage (.404) and slugging percentage (.525). Her 27 triples are a program record and tied for 17th in NCAA history.
The Racers face the USSSA Pride during the opening round of the NPF Championship series. The best of three series begins 6 p.m. Thursday at Sulphur’s McMurry Park. LSU’s Rachel Mitchell, a member of the regular season champion Chicago Bandits, takes on the Tennessee Diamonds. That best of three series gets underway 30 minutes after the Racers-Pride game.
