BATON ROUGE – No player in the history of the LSU soccer program enjoyed a debut quite like striker Addie Eggleston in leading the 20th-ranked Tigers to an 8-0 win over South Alabama in their 2010 season opener Sunday afternoon, and the freshman from Houston has been honored for her performance with her selection as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
Eggleston, who signed with LSU as the No. 33-ranked recruit in the country in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 100, certainly lived up to her billing in her collegiate debut with a two-goal, three-assist performance against the Jaguars on Sunday at the LSU Soccer Complex.
It only took Eggleston a little more than 16 minutes to tie the LSU single-game record for assists with her first-half performance as she assisted on each of LSU’s first three goals of the contest.
She then got on the scoresheet herself with consecutive goals in the second half as she scored her first as a Tiger in the 51st minute when she made a brilliant step over move to free herself from a defender and fired a shot inside the right post from the top of the penalty area. She then followed in the 72nd minute chipping a shot from the top of the box over the goalkeeper and into the net in a one-on-one situation.
Eggleston and the rest of her LSU teammates will be back in action this weekend as they go on the road at Memphis to take on the 18th-ranked Tigers in a match on Saturday at 7 p.m. CDT.
