BATON ROUGE — The LSU baseball squad added another player to its talented signing class Thursday as coach Paul Mainieri announced that pitcher/outfielder Jimmy Dykstra has joined the program and will be eligible for the 2011 season.
Dykstra is a right-handed pitcher/outfielder who played one season at Yavapai (Ariz.) Junior College prior to transferring to LSU. He will start classes at LSU next week and will be classified as a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining.
Dykstra, a 6-4, 200-pound native of San Diego, Calif., was selected in the 50th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. He was also chosen as a high school senior in the 40th round of the ’09 draft by the Boston Red Sox.
The addition of Dykstra increases the number of drafted players in LSU’s incoming signing class to seven.
Dykstra’s brother, Allan, was the first-round draft selection of the San Diego Padres as a first baseman in 2008.
