COLLEGE STATION, Texas — LSU divers Brian Gemberling and Rebecca St. Germain each squared off against the nation’s top divers this past week at 2010 AT&T National Championships in Texas A&M’s Student Rec Center Natatorium.
Gemberling led the charge, advancing to the semifinals of the men’s three-meter after claiming fifth in the quarterfinals with a 371.70 score. The Levittown, Pa., native finished 17th in the semifinals with a mark of 334.05.
The junior-to-be also competed in the one-meter, placing 23rd with a score of 266.20.
St. Germain, the SEC Freshman Diver of the Year, took 28th in the women’s one-meter (184.40).
Sophomore-to-be Jesse Lyman, who qualified for the men’s platform competition, had to withdraw due to injury.
“Although we had some hiccups along the way and some circumstances you can’t control, I’m proud of the LSU divers who made the commitment to train all summer for this meet and take the next step in advancing their careers,” head diving coach Doug Shaffer said.
“The highlight of the meet was Brian placing fifth in the quarterfinals of the three-meter. Even though he had a few hiccups in the semifinals, it was a great accomplishment given how young he is to have that level of performance in such a big meet.”
