BATON ROUGE – After earning second-team all-conference honors a season ago as the premier defensive midfielder in the Southeastern Conference, LSU junior Allysha Chapman solidified her place as one of the SEC’s elite performers Monday afternoon with a selection to the preseason All-SEC team.
Chapman is one of 15 student-athletes from across the conference to earn a spot on the fourth-annual SEC Soccer Coaches Preseason All-SEC Team as LSU has been represented on the team in each season.
After starting all 24 matches for the Tigers last year as both an outside defender and defensive midfielder, Chapman was honored for her performance with a Second-Team All-SEC selection and a Third-Team All-South Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The junior from Courtice, Ontario, Canada, will help lead a program that enters the 2010 campaign as the three-time defending SEC Western Division champion and veterans of three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The Tigers are also poised to challenge for their first ever SEC regular season championship after finishing in second place in the final SEC standings in each of the last two years.
The start of the 2010 season is less than two weeks away as LSU welcomes the South Alabama Jaguars to Baton Rouge on Sunday, Aug. 22, for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the LSU Soccer Complex.
