BATON ROUGE- LSU women’s tennis head coach Tony Minnis will coach his Southern Girls 18s National Team at the USTA National Teams Championship match Friday at 4 p.m. CT at the Claremont Tennis Courts in Claremont, Calif.

The tournament is a competition held between each section-17 total-to determine which area has the best talent in America.

Minnis’ team includes girls from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, which all comprise the Southern section.

The team has been victorious in three rounds of matches as they defeated the Southwest section, 7-0, in the first round, the Middle States section, 6-1, in the second round and upset the No. 1 seed Southern California section, 5-2, in the third round.

The Southern section will face the Midwest section in tomorrow’s championship match. To advance to the final round of the tournament the Midwest section defeated the Texas section, 4-2, in round three.

The Southern section is looking to claim its second consecutive national championship.
