BATON ROUGE — LSU divers Brian Gemberling, Rebecca St. Germain and Jesse Lyman punched their tickets to the 2010 AT&T National Diving Championships with stellar efforts at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone ‘B’ competition in Tallahassee, Fla., this past weekend.

“I’m really proud of our student-athletes,” co-head coach Doug Shaffer said. “We made the commitment to compete at this level, and I’m just so proud of their accomplishments.

“The National Championships is a very elite event. It’s not easy to make it to that level, but I’m really excited that LSU will have a presence there next month with Brian, Becca and Jesse.”

Gemberling, the school record-holder in the three-meter springboard, emerged victorious in that event with a 367.60 score after tallying a career-high total of 397.95 in the prelims. The junior-to-be also posted a sixth-place finish in the one-meter.

St. Germain, the reigning SEC Freshman Diver of the Year, captured runner-up honors in the women’s one-meter (248.05), while Lyman, a native of Cherry Hill, N.J., qualified after his fourth-place finish in the platform competition (232.65).

The National Championships will be held in College Station, Texas, Aug. 10-15.
