STARKVILLE, Miss. – A day after earning Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School All-Region First-Team honors, Jacee Blades and Tammy Wray notched All-America selections Friday as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Each team consists of 16 players as Wray took home first team accolades, while Blades checked in with second team status. The duo will join the Tigers as freshmen for the 2011 season.
Blades notched Class 3A’s Most Outstanding Player award from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in June while playing for former LSU All-American Ashlee Ducote at Parkview High School. She batted .525 with six doubles and 11 RBIs as her team finished as the 3A runner-up for the third straight season.
Wray, the reigning New York Gatorade Player of the Year, owns 14 program records at Somers High School. She posted a .623 batting average to go along with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs during her senior season en route to her fifth All-Conference and fourth All-Section 1 selection.
It marks the second straight season that LSU has had a signee on this prestigious list. Rachele Fico was a NFCA High School All-America First-Team honoree in 2009.
