Softball?s Mitchell, Peel Embark on NPF Seasons

BATON ROUGE – Rachel Mitchell and Trena Peel represent the LSU softball program on opening day rosters in the National Pro Fastpitch League which started play last week.

Peel, a seven-year veteran in the league, enters her first season with the Akron Racers after spending the previous three seasons in Philadelphia. Mitchell begins her rookie campaign with the two-time defending regular season champion Chicago Bandits after being selected No. 15 in the 2010 NPF Draft.

Peel went 5-for-15 with two RBIs, a double and a stolen base. Her five hits are tied for ninth in the league, while Mitchell notched a 3-for-13 effort with a trio of RBIs and two stolen bases. Mitchell’s three RBIs are tied for sixth.  

Both Akron and Chicago emerged with 3-2 records on opening weekend. The two teams will square off in a three-game weekend series starting Friday.
