BATON ROUGE – In celebration of the life and career of one of LSU’s most beloved Tigers, fans can bid on the No. 31 Wally Pontiff, Jr. sign from the outfield wall of the old Alex Box Stadium at www.AlexBoxAuctions.net.
All proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Wally Pontiff, Jr. Foundation, created in the memory of Wally Pontiff, Jr. a three-year letterman and member of the 2000 national championship baseball team.
The winning bidder will be required to donate the sign to the Pontiff family, but will receive a smaller commemorative replica of the No. 31 sign made from the actual outfield wall from the old stadium. The actual outfield wall sign will be presented to Wally’s family just before the third inning of the Wally Pontiff Classic in New Orleans on Wednesday, April 7 at Zephyr Field. This sign will be hung at the baseball field at Pontiff Playground (formerly Metairie Playground) in Metairie.
The winning bidder will be given VIP tickets to the game and will be part of the on-field presentation ceremony. Along with the commemorative replica, the winning bidder will receive a photo with the participants in the ceremony. The production of the 3′ x 3′ replica sign was a collaborative effort between Alex Box Auctions, Kabel Signs and B&C Sheet Metal of Denham Springs.
Fans may bid on the sign at www.AlexBoxAuctions.net and the winning bidder will be permitted to donate the amount directly to the Foundation for tax deduction benefits. The auction is scheduled to end on Thursday, April 1 at 5 p.m. (CST).
