HOUSTON – The LSU volleyball team split a quartet of matches Saturday at the 5th Annual Texas Tornados College Spring Tournament in Houston.
The defending SEC champions defeated fellow 2009 NCAA Tournament squads Rice and Wichita State, while falling to 2009 NCAA Tournament participant TCU along with New Mexico State.
“I thought we competed very well,” head coach Fran Flory said. “This is a good starting point for our young group of players. Playing in this tournament certainly gave us ideas where we executed at a high level but at the same time gave us great insight on where we need to improve.”
LSU put together an impressive 25-7 record in 2009 en route to the program’s first SEC regular season title since 1991. Under Flory, the defending five-time SEC Western Division champions are one of only 20 programs in the nation to appear in the last five NCAA Tournaments.
