Men’s Tennis to Clash With No. 2 Vols

KNOXVILLE, Ten. – The LSU men’s tennis team will journey to Knoxville, Tenn. for a conference match Sunday at noon CST against second-ranked Tennessee at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
 
LSU (5-7, 2-2 SEC) is fresh off its biggest win of the season thus far against No. 21 Wake Forest, 4-3. After losing the early doubles point, the Tigers fought back from match point to take four singles courts and win the match.
 
The Tigers continue to be led by sophomore Neal Skupski in the rankings at No. 46 with a 15-11 overall record. Skupski carries a three-match win streak and a 7-5 record over nationally-ranked opponents into the matchup with the Vols.
 
Tennessee (15-1, 4-0 SEC) has one loss recorded to top-ranked Virginia, 4-1. The Vols feature a tough singles and doubles lineup with four singles players and three duos recorded in the national rankings. Tennessee lists in singles No. 2 John-Patrick Smith, No. 32 Boris Conkic, No. 44 Rhyne Williams and No. 95 Matt Brewer.
 
In doubles, Smith and Davey Sandgren comprise the No. 1 duo , Conkic and Rhyne team up to make the No. 5 team and Conkic and Smith unite to make the No. 7 tandem.
 
“Tennessee has had a great year,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They have a great doubles and singles lineup, and we look forward to giving it our best to see if we have risen to that level yet.”
 
LSU holds the all-time record 30-24 with the teams last meeting in 2009 in Baton Rouge where the Vols slipped past the Tigers, 4-3.
