BATON ROUGE – After playing an integral part of LSU’s 197.150-195.400 victory against Iowa, LSU gymnast Ericka Garcia earned Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week honors from the league office Tuesday.
LSU (7-4-1) posted the nation’s highest score of the week against the Hawkeyes, and it marked the first time all season the Tigers cracked the 197 barrier.
A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Garcia had the best meet of her young career. She scored a career-high 9.825 on beam, and she added a 9.825 on bars and a 9.80 on vault.
It marked the first SEC honor of Garcia’s career. She shared the honor with Georgia’s Christa Tanella.
LSU will be back in action Friday when the Tigers travel to Shreveport to take on Centenary in the Gold Dome at 6 p.m.
