BATON ROUGE – LSU junior golfer Megan McChrystal earned a national women’s college golfer of the week award from Golfweek.com Tuesday following her win Sunday in the Tiger-Wave Golf Classic in New Orleans at English Turn Golf and Country Club.
McChrystal made a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole of regulation to finish the event with a three-under par 69 and a one shot win in the individual competition over Calle Neilson of Virginia. McChrystal shot rounds of 72-72-69 to finish at three-under par 213.
Making her win even more impressive was the size of the Tiger-Wave Golf Classic that included 124 golfers (23 five-member teams and nine individual competitors.
For the junior from Stuart, Fla., it was her third career LSU victory (first of the season), tying her with Ashley Winn and Meredith Duncan for third on the career titles list while at LSU. Only Jenny Lidback (7) and Kristi Coats (6) have won more golf tournaments during their time at LSU. It was the 32nd individual winner for LSU in collegiate competition.
