OXFORD, Miss. – The LSU men’s tennis team is set to square off against No. 13 Ole Miss in a Sunday match slated for 1 p.m. on the Rebels’ home courts at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
LSU (4-6, 2-1 SEC) is fresh off a 4-3 victory over conference opponent Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. After Mississippi State jumped to a 3-0 lead, LSU bounced back to take the match capped with an outstanding performance by Sebastian Carlsson on court two to clinch the match with a win over Artem Ilyushin, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-3.
Both LSU and Ole Miss feature nationally-ranked players. Leading LSU into the contest against Ole Miss is 44th-ranked Neal Skupski with a 3-6 dual record. No. 53 Tucker Vorster leads the Rebels followed by Marcel Thiemann at No. 81.
“We know Ole Miss has a strong singles and doubles lineup,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We are looking to challenge them in several spots. We want to do what is necessary for us to win, and hopefully, we can make that happen.”
Ole Miss is 10-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. In Ole Miss’ most recent match, the Rebels defeated Arkansas 4-2 in Oxford.
LSU owns the overall series record between the two teams at 43-15. LSU and Ole Miss met three times during 2009 with the Rebels taking each match including the NCAA second-round meeting hosted in Baton Rouge, 4-2.
