BATON ROUGE — After capturing its first Southeastern Conference win, the LSU women’s tennis team will use its new-found momentum in its next matches as it takes on Ole Miss and Southern Sunday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge.
“Ole Miss is a top-25 team. They’ve had a great season to this point,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We need to carry the momentum from the Mississippi State win and go out and take a shot at Mississippi.”
LSU (3-8, 1-2 SEC) dominated Mississippi State Friday by a 6-1 score. The Lady Tigers swept the doubles point and kept the lead the entire match.
The Lady Tigers feature sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Kaitlin Burns who both continue to be a consistent point for the Lady Tigers. Wolf has notched four wins at the No. 1 position while Burns holds an 8-2 dual match record.
No. 22 Ole Miss (7-2, 2-1 SEC) is highlighted by 36th-ranked Kristi Boxx who owns a 5-2 record in the No. 1 slot. In doubles, Ole Miss is led by the 12th-ranked duo of Kristi Boxx and Karen Njissen. The Rebels last played Arkansas where they dropped their match to the Razorbacks, 5-2.
Southern is fresh off of going undefeated at the SWAC Roundup.
First serve against Ole Miss is slated at noon CT with the Southern match immediately following.
