Lady Tigers Tennis Hosts Mississippi St.

BATON ROUGE — After opening Southeastern Conference competition on the road, the LSU women’s tennis team will return to W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium to face Mississippi State Friday beginning at 3 p.m. CST.

“We’re excited to finally be back at home and looking forward to the weekend,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “Mississippi State is having a really good year and one of the best they’ve had in a while. It’s going to be a challenge, but I think our players are up to it.”

LSU (2-8, 0-2 SEC) dropped its first two SEC contests to South Carolina and fifth-ranked Florida. 

Mississippi State (8-3, 1-1 SEC) began SEC play in Starkville, Miss., with a win over Kentucky and a loss to No. 25 Vanderbilt. The Lady Bulldogs feature Olesya Tsigvintseva who owns three wins in the dual season. In doubles, Tsigvintseva and partner Natalia Mayuk hold a 4-2 record at the No. 1 spot.

The Lady Tigers are highlighted by sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Kaitlin Burns who holds a 7-2 dual match record with one win over a nationally ranked foe.

The two teams last met in Starkville where MSU ousted the Lady Tigers, 4-3. LSU leads the overall series over Mississippi State, 23-9.
