BATON ROUGE — The LSU Athletics Department wraps up its month-long seminar in conjunction with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute [OLLI] at LSU on Monday.

LSU has given 27 people a behind the scenes look at the department over a quartet of two-hour sessions. OLLI at LSU is a learning community for persons ages 50 and older who enjoy learning.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the OLII at LSU and hopefully provide insight into our department,” Assistant Athletics Director of Marketing Craig Pintens said. “Most people only hear about what happens on the field or court, but this course can help tell the story of our excellence in competition, distinction in the classroom and contribution to the community. We want to thank Tom Moore, a dedicated member of the OLLI, who brought the possibility of this course to our attention and Doreen Maxcy and Diane Wells for their guidance in setting up the course. We want to learn as much from the course participants as they learn from us and based on the first three weeks of the course, that has definitely been the case.”

The participants received a glimpse into the day-to-day management of LSU’s comprehensive athletic program that molds the lives of young people, impacts the mission of a university, generates pride in millions of alumni and supporters and enhances the quality of life of an entire community.

Tiger head coaches Fran Flory and D-D Breaux provided the class with unique insight into the world of athletics and highlighted the aspects of running two extremely successful programs from coaching and recruiting to academics and community involvement.

LSU’s award winning sports information, publications and marketing programs gave the class an overview of how LSU athletics communicates interacts with its fans to provide timely updates via different mediums.

The Cox Communications Academic Center will spotlight the life of a student-athlete within the areas of academic support services, personal development workshops, career development workshops and community outreach initiatives for the class. The Tiger Athletic Foundation [TAF] also will stop by the class to share how it’s dedicated to supporting LSU and the athletic program.

The class also received a tour of legendary Tiger Stadium and Alex Box Stadium. The tours were directed by Ronnie Haliburton, Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Grounds along with Coordinator of Baseball Operations Ross Brezovsky.

There are three chapters of OLLI within the greater Baton Rouge area with a membership of 850 people.  OLLI at LSU is one of the 120 OLLI’s located in every state within the United States.
