BATON ROUGE – After a tough loss to South Carolina, the LSU women’s tennis team will look to rebound against No. 6 Florida in its next Southeastern Conference challenge Sunday at Linder Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. First serve is slated for noon CST.
LSU (2-7, 0-1 SEC) dropped its first SEC match to South Carolina by a 5-2 decision.
“We need to regroup and keep fighting,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “Florida is obviously a great team, but we’ve been improving with each match. I hope we continue that trend tomorrow.”
The Lady Tigers are led by sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Kaitlin Burns. Wolf has notched 13 wins this season, and Burns holds a 7-1 dual match record.
Florida (10-2, 1-0 SEC) is highlighted by five ranked opponents in No. 11 Allie Will, No. 15 Lauren Embree, No. 62 Marrit Boonstra, No. 105 Anastasia Revzina and No. 116 Caroline Hitimana.
The Gators are fresh off a blanking of 15th-ranked Arkansas in both of the teams’ SEC opener. UF earned its 825th win in the program’s 38-year history and improved its home record against SEC opponents to 162-1 all-time.
In the two team’s last contest, the Lady Tigers upset the Gators, 4-3. Three-time Singles All-American Megan Falcon clinched the overall match for LSU as the win marked the Lady Tigers first program victory over Florida and the first time in which the result of a match rested on Falcon’s racket.
