BATON ROUGE – The No. 16 LSU softball team will take fans behind the scenes at different points during the 2010 season. Sophomore catcher Morgan Russell shared some thoughts after Thursday’s practice leading into the Purple & Gold Challenge at Tiger Park this weekend.
“Hey Tiger Fans!
What a beautiful day in the Capital City! I wanted to take a quick moment to thank you for all of your unconditional support for the LSU softball program. Not only is it a privilege to walk the campus, but to be able to put on the purple and gold jersey as a student-athlete is an unexplainable feeling.
There’s no greater honor than to represent the Baton Rouge community and the great people of the State of Louisiana. I know that I’m not the only player who would say that being here at LSU is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. The Tiger family and fan support are absolutely remarkable. And, being able to experience this time with a group of hard-working girls, my teammates, makes this time more memorable.
We are entering the last stretch of our 18-game homestand, and it sure has been wonderful to sleep in our own beds! This team has made remarkable strides every weekend, and we’re looking forward to competing against some great teams this weekend. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by a group of wonderful people in my teammates and coaching staff. Most of all, I wanted to thank you Tiger Fans, the heart and soul of this program. Your support means the world to every single player on this team.
I hope to see you all this weekend as we take on Syracuse, South Alabama and Campbell.
