BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will begin Southeastern Conference play Friday as it takes on South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. First serve is set for 1 p.m. CST.
“We’re excited to open up SEC play. We made some changes to our doubles lineup, which will hopefully be beneficial,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We’re looking forward to taking on a very tough South Carolina team.”
LSU (2-6) is led by sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Kaitlin Burns. Wolf notched her third career victory over a ranked opponent as she defeated No. 63 Rebekka Hanle in the Lady Tigers’ last match versus Rice. Burns holds a 7-0 dual match record and rides on a seven-match win streak.
The Gamecocks (4-3) feature two ranked opponents in No. 72 Ana Zubori and No. 111 Anya Morgina.
The teams’ last contest resulted in LSU claiming a 5-2 decision in a marathon match in Baton Rouge. The win marked the Lady Tigers’ third-ever victory over the Gamecocks.
South Carolina leads the overall series against LSU, 17-3.
