BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to non-conference foe Texas A&M Sunday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
Texas A&M (1-2) jumped ahead with an early lead as it swept the doubles point. Senior Hannah Robinson and freshman Ebie Wilson fell to Sheri Olivier and Nazari Urbina 8-2 on court three. Lady Tigers Nicole Kantor and Kaitlin Burns dropped their match to Morgan Frank and Stephanie Davidson as they clinched the doubles point for A&M 8-2.
On court one, the Lady Tiger tandem of Whitney Wolf and Keri Frankenberger were ahead of Christi Liles and Elzé Potgieter 6-2 but could not hold the lead as the Aggie duo took the match 8-7(1).
In singles, freshman Frankenberger finished first on court two as she fell to Frank 6-0, 6-3. On court five, Robinson dropped her match to Olivier 6-0, 6-2.
LSU’s (2-3) Kantor lost to No. 117 Urbina on court three 6-1, 6-1. Texas A&M’s No. 88 Potgieter clinched the overall match against No. 120 Wolf by the score 6-1, 6-0.
With the score at 5-0, Burns took her first set over Davidson 6-3, and then dropped her second set 6-3. The Wilmington, N.C., product gave the Lady Tigers their only point of the match as she defeated Davidson in the tie-breaker 10-6.
On court six, Wilson gave tremendous effort but was not able to upend Liles as she lost 3-6, 7-5, 10-7.
“We didn’t play well at all. We will play better. We will play with more fire and determination in the upcoming matches. We have to play with more effort and energy than we did today,” said head coach Tony Minnis.
The Lady Tigers will take the courts again Feb. 17 as they face Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
